The Urban Bouquet, Panel Installation in Brampton, ON

The Urban Bouquet, Panel Installation on Concrete by Charlie Johnston in Brampton, ON

Charles or “Charlie” Johnston has created acres of paintings. But instead of painting on canvas, this Winnipeg artist has painted on everything from billboards to concrete to a ten-story apartment building  and a 27,000 square foot peanut silo.  Maybe he’s one of the reasons that Winnipeg has the most outdoor murals  -over 500 –  of any major city in Canada.  Johnston’s public art “tells stories and creates dialogue” in communities across North America.

Johnston has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Manitoba and brings over 30 years of creative and instructional experience to Langevin School. He will work directly with students to create artwork that represents a mix of themes based on the ideas and hopes of students as they discover them through a series of “artist-in-residence” sessions. These ideas and themes representing the Langevin Science School Universe will  be woven into an overall schematic by Johnston and portioned into in-situ and student panel pieces.  The artist, teachers and volunteers will  work with students to help develop their individual ideas and painting for their panel pieces.  Johnston will paint the background in-situ portions of the mural and attach the student panels in their designated spots to complete the picture.
